Ian Rosam - The Evolution Of Football Coverage

On the first episode of Pushing Faders, I chat to Ian Rosam about his career and how he and his fellow sound supervisor Robert Edwards created the football coverage we know today. In 1992 the Premier League kicked off in England and Sky Sports' coverage changed how football looks and sounds to this day.

Taking influences from light entertainment sound, Rob and Ian created a whole new standard for sound coverage on football. We discuss these innovations and the progression from mono through to 5.1.

The Premier League audio coverage was held in such high regard that HBS asked Ian and Rob to create an audio production plan for the World Cup in 2002 to bring uniformity to the sound at subsequent competitions.

Hello Chris. Love the podcast even though I’ve never been a sound supervisor in my 48 year in the business....but have worked along side many in my time as Head of OBs at Setanta, ESPN and BT Sport. Now retired but still doing g the odd bit of Tech Prod work for various broadcasters including UMing in Qatar for Timeline at the last World Cup. Looking forward to the next podcast. Pail Ryan P
